Star Wars Responds To Brie Larson's Desire To Be A Jedi

Brie Larson is about to debut as Captain Marvel and it sounds like the actress has got major outer space fever. In a cover story for EW, Larson said she wanted to be a Jedi after she got to hold Samuel L. Jackson's lightsaber prop from the Star Wars prequels. It didn't take long for the official Star Wars Twitter to throw in the final judgement, writing that the Force was inside her all along.

One of the benefits of filming a movie with Samuel L. Jackson is that he might let you play with one of his toys. The actor stars alongside Brie Larson in Captain Marvel as a younger version of Nick Fury, but Fury is only one of Jackson's iconic characters. He also played Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequels, and he got to keep Windu's special lightsaber hilt.

In honor of May the Fourth, the official Stars Wars holiday, Samuel L. Jackson brought the lightsaber hilt to the Captain Marvel set and Brie Larson got to hold it. It's especially cool because the hilt is inscribed with "BMF," which stands for badass motherfucker, a reference to another classic Jackson film, Pulp Fiction.

Star Wars responded to Brie Larson's desire to be a Jedi on social media, writing that "The Force is definitely with you, Captain." Larson responded back by writing that she was honored to be an intergalactic hero. Captain Marvel flies through space and blows up spaceships with laser beams from her hands, so she certainly qualifies as an intergalactic hero.

Some on the internet are having fun the news. Fandom posted a photoshopped image of Brie Larson as a Jedi with Mace Windu's iconic purple lightsaber. It's pretty rad and Larson agrees. She responded back with nothing but six exclamation points, so she was clearly happy with the photo.

As to whether Brie Larson will ever get to be a Jedi, who can say? Episode IX will wrap up this current saga of the Star Wars story and then it's basically free game from there. The potential for new stories is almost limitless, so I'm sure that there will be room for new Jedi characters.

But before Brie Larson can think about a galaxy far, far away, she has to deal with the one she's currently trying to save. Larson stars in Captain Marvel, which follows intergalactic warrior Carol Danvers and her quest to discover her past on Earth and stop a war between two alien species. The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
