Channing Tatum Would Totally Put A Thong Back On For Magic Mike Live

It's been over three years since we saw Channing Tatum's abs get splashed all over posters and trailers for Magic Mike XXL. The actor has since taken a slew of different roles that have not required shirtless scenes, including voice work in Smallfoot and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. However, he recently revealed he'd be totally down to slap on a thong to surprise fan at a Magic Mike Live show under one condition, noting:

Oh, yeah! I'm getting closer to back in shape, but if I'm ever back in shape, I promised the Magic Mike cast of Vegas and London that I will strap on the old thong again. I gotta do it soon because this old body isn't gonna do what it used to do anymore.

It's hard to imagine Channing Tatum not being in rock solid shape (while I suppose it's easy to imagine him in a thong thanks to his previous Magic Mike work); regardless, per his comments to ET we'll only see him try out some Magic Mike Live work if he gets into quote-unquote "shape."

Channing Tatum has been open fairly recently about gaining weight for Logan Lucky, the Steven Soderbergh movie he starred in in 2017. He's previously mentioned weight gain and getting soft related to the movie, noting that no one wants to see his character, Jimmy Logan, with his shirt off. Literally that's what he said about his weight gain as part of the role:

You definitely don't want to see Jimmy Logan with his shirt off, I can promise you that. We didn't design it like, 'Oh, Jimmy Logan's going to be out of shape,' but by the end of the movie I had put on, I dunno, 30-40 pounds and I was like, 'This is uncomfortable.' It was like actually painful. I did not like being that heavy.

In the time since, Channing Tatum has said he's "started eating better" as he prepares for roles like the oft-mentioned Gambit release. For now, though, he's set to play Superman in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, which in all honesty is probably the most ideal superhero role, as it means he gets to be Superman without dealing with all of the weight and working out crap.

So, perhaps getting in thong shape for Magic Mike Live will be left for another day. As it stands, the live show based on the movie franchise is very popular. In fact, it recently opened a second run in London and is set to play 5 nights a week at the London's Hippodrome Casino. And it's safe to say that Channing Tatum enjoys revisiting Magic Mike moments on occasion.

The movie franchise was originally even inspired by Channing Tatum's own work as a stripper in Florida when he was only 18. He's come a long way since then, and apparently, so has his waistline.

John Mulaney Already Has An Idea For A Spider-Ham Into The Spider-Verse Spinoff

One of the reasons Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is so unique is how it includes characters who probably wouldn't have ever appeared in live action. At the top of this list is Spider-Ham, the Looney Tunes-esque hero voiced by John Mulaney. Like the other Spider-heroes who appeared alongside Miles Morales in Into the Spider-Verse, there's potential for Spider-Ham to lead his own standalone movie, and Mulaney already has a story pitch. He explained:

[Spider-Ham] is a fun guy who is capable of great rage. To go see him back at the Daily Beagle --- I could see a Watergate-like story at the Beagle where he's both a reporter and Spider-Ham by night. [I] never thought that the Clark Kents and the Peter Parkers leaned enough into the day job. This would be more like The Post or All The President's Men or Spotlight, but we'd make it family friendly. Lots of bacon jokes, or, 'that's hamfisted.'

Spider-Ham may be the wackiest of the Spider-heroes in the multiverse, but as John Mulaney sees it, there's room for the pig's movie to have substance as well. Like Peter Parker, Spider-Ham is a photographer for a newspaper, so while his superhero adventures are full of crazy antics, that could be balanced by a journalistic investigation, as Mulaney mused to Variety.

I'm curious to see if Sony would be on board with this kind of story. After all, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse had to appeal to both young and older moviegoers alike, and I'm not sure an All The President's Men-style Spider-Ham movie would grab kids' attention. Then again, Into the Spider-Verse did a good job with balancing the standard superhero tropes with complex themes and story elements, so maybe there is a way to give Spider-Ham a compelling journalism tale filled with plenty of pig/pork puns and oversized mallets.

For those of you unfamiliar with Spider-Ham, a.k.a. Peter Porker, he was introduced in 1983's Marvel Tails Starring Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham #1, hailing from a world of anthropomorphic, talking animals. Originally a spider, he was bitten by a radioactive pig and retained his arachnid abilities. John Mulaney's version of Spider-Ham shared the same backstory, and he teamed up with Miles Morales, the older Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir and Peni Parker to save New York City from Kingpin.

As things stand now, all that's in the works right now for the Spider-Verse franchise is a direct sequel and a spinoff starring Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman and Silk. But as producer and co-writer Phil Lord acknowledged, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the type of movie that could spawn 30 sequels, each centered on a different Spider-hero from the multiverse. So perhaps there will come a day when Spider-Ham gets the spotlight to himself to... ham it up.

Simon Pegg is known for being something of a geek off the screen, so you'd be forgiven for thinking a guy that has been part of multiple major film franchises is living the dream. Apparently not. At least, there was a time when he wasn't. Pegg, who is about to co-star alongside Tom Cruise in yet another big Mission: Impossible movie, now admits that as his star was on the rise, following hit movies like Shaun of the Dead, which led to massive film franchise roles like Star Trek, he kept waiting for the success to make him happy. It was a moment that never came because Pegg now admits he was suffering from depression. According to Pegg...

I would feel like -- I'm in a film with Tom Cruise, I've got the part of Scotty in Star Trek. This should be making me feel happy. But it wasn't.

From the outside, it's certainly understandable to believe that Simon Pegg had everything figured out. His British TV series Spaced was all about the geek set that loves things like Star Wars and Star Trek and it built a cult following in the U.S. as well as the U.K. From there, he co-writes and stars in Shaun of the Dead which starts his rise in film. Since then, Pegg has had major roles in both Star Trek and Star Wars not to mention Mission: Impossible. It's the sort of thing his own character from Spaced would have loved.

Of course, Simon Pegg is now admitting to The Guardian that his problems went far beyond something living the life of a Hollywood superstar could fix. He admits to suffering from depression, which he would self-medicate with alcohol. He now says that while filming Mission: Impossible III he was a full-blown alcoholic. At that point, there just isn't a film role that was going to fix anything.

Interestingly, while Mission: Impossible III may have been rock bottom for Simon Pegg, it seems that Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was the beginning of the climb out. Apparently, and I'll be looking for this during my upcoming rewatch, you can actually see Pegg get healthier over the course of the movie, as he had started in recovery just as the film was getting underway.

While Simon Pegg originally went to court to keep stories of his recovery from getting out in the press, the actor now says that he's no longer ashamed of what happened, and is happy to tell the story on the chance that it might help others going through similar issues.

Today, on the eve of the release of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Simon Pegg appears to be in a much better place. The franchise movies may not have made him happy on their own, but hopefully, he's now happy as he makes them.
